Welcome to Relaxed Organizing

I'm a wife, mom to six kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 birds, 2 hornets......(actually, they were uninvited guests) and I teach.  I've spent years and years learning how to organize.  I've learned to be relaxed in my organization, never overly-organized.  Come in and join me as I go through some of the casual ways that I've learned to arrange things in my home and business.

We'll use this wiki to learn how to organize in a way that meets your needs, but doesn't demand all of your time to keep up.  Organizing, but not too much organizing, just enough to accomplish what you want done.

Musings

Let's go over a couple of suggestions that will greatly benefit you:

Suggestion Number 1 - Never over-organize to the point that you won't use what you just spent time working on.  It's a waste of your time.  (Fun, if you love the initial set-up in organizing, but not worth it.)

Suggestion Number 2 - If someone has a great way to organize something, but it's not your style...Then don't do it!  You don't need to follow everyone's plan.  It's more like a great bookstore.  You browse around, reading here and there; when you find something you like, you buy it.  This is the best way to find what works for you, for now.  For example, this is NOT me...

So, I would never organize my cds  this way.  (My books...yes...cds...no....why?  I don't know.)  BUT...you may really like this!  Find what works for you and your family.

Organizing Activities

    1.  Figure out one thing that may be driving you nuts.  Is it your kitchen cabinets?  Your desk?  Your CD or DVD collection?  stacks of paper?  Your screwdrivers?.......Write it down.  Then, we 'll go to work on seeing what best helps your situation.

Resources

There are literally hundreds of resources for organizing, decluttering, scaling down.  I will try to list a few.  Again, remember, no one person, book, or website has all the answers to your needs.  We browse around until we find something that just clicks....Wow!  I think I could do that!

Social Bookmarking:  To keep track of your web pages.  Here is a video on...

how to explain del.ic.ious to your parents  -  This is a great video clip that explains the whole 'social bookmarking' thing!

Charity Box

If there is anything that you don't use that is sitting out, consider getting rid of it.  If it's good, you could donate it.  If it's not, just go ahead and toss it.  I keep a "Charity Box" in my laundry area.  It's right on top of the washer or dryer (precariously perched at the moment.)  My kids know that if they have washed clothes and something doesn't fit; they fold it right there and place it in the Charity Box.   I have actually printed out the title "Charity Box" off the computer and used the clear wide packing tape to put it on the box.  That way, no one throws out my Charity Box.  We empty it into a bag to take to the Salvation Army.
